Pakistan summoned on Thursday a senior Indian diplomat to lodge strong protest over recent ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation forces along the Line of Control (LoC).

In a statement issued by the Foreign Office (FO), a protest was registered against India's ceasefire violations on May 20, in Chirikot Sector. Due to the firing, resident of Pothi village, Muhammad Arif, 45, sustained serious injuries.

The FO said so far India has committed 1102 ceasefire violations in 2020. The forces have continuously been targeting civilian populated areas with artillery fire, heavy-caliber mortars and automatic weapons.

"These egregious violations of international law reflect consistent Indian attempts to escalate the situation along the LoC and are a threat to regional peace and security," the FO said.

The Indian side was also urged to allow the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan to play its mandated role as per the United Nations Security Council Resolutions, the statement read.
