Germany is planning to purchase Avigan from Japan in order to treat coronavirus which has taken over the country.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany has risen more than 67,000 and  at least 732 people have died of the disease.

Avigan, anti-influenza drug is developed by a unit of Fujifilm Holdings. Aiming for short-term stockpiling of Avigan, Germany will buy millions of packs. With the help of the military, these packs will then be distributed through university hospitals and other institutions, asia.nikkei.com reported.

The Chinese government has also said that the drug by Japan is effective in coronavirus patients. Zhang Xinmin, an official at China’s science and technology ministry, said Avigan produced encouraging outcomes in clinical trials in Wuhan and Shenzhen involving 340 patients.
