BERLIN: German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Tuesday that the European Union must boost its competitiveness as Britain will become a new competitor on its doorstep after Brexit.
"One thing is clear, Britain will develop into another competitor on the doorstep of Europe. And therefore the EU will be challenged to become more competitive and to assume geopolitical responsibility," she told a gathering of executives from the machinery sector.
