Pakistan's newly seated head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq has defended his decision to be part of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) while being involved in the national team as well.

“If you are dishonest, then you can do any wrongdoing if you want to, but if we see in a positive way, that getting involved in PSL you can closely watch all players, some are playing with you some are playing against you,” said Misbah,  while talking at the PCB Radio Show.

“When you are close to the players, being a selector and a head coach, one can exactly identify what you need for the team, where the player stands, what is his fitness levels, his temperament etc, you exactly know your resources. When you are selecting now for the Pakistan team, you know which player is useful for you and can fit in the position or not,” he added.

Earlier, the PCB informed that they have given Misbah the green signal to pursue coaching positions at the PSL. “PCB has reviewed about it and we have made a strategic decision, we understand that Misbah lacks the international exposure so, we were of the view that the opportunity he would get in PSL would be an advantage to Pakistan,” said PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan.

“For us the bigger picture is the success of Pakistan. So based on the number of days Pakistan would play international cricket, PCB was of the view that Misbah should get the exposure in PSL if he gets picked up in the tournament,” he added.

The PCB announced on Wednesday that former Pakistan captain Misbah has been chosen as Pakistan men’s national team head coach in all three formats as well the national chief selector on a three-year contract.
