Following her appointment as one of the four vice presidents of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the economic arm of the United Nations, Pakistan's ambassador to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi said that Pakistan's election is 'vote of confidence from the global community'.

Lodhi was elected on Thursday as one of the vice-president of ECOSOC. Pakistan's permanent ambassador to UN will assume the Asia Pacific seat in the ECOSOC bureau. Her election was endorsed by 54 members of the Asia Pacific Group.

The ambassador took to her Twitter handle and wrote, "ECOSOC is at the heart of implementation of the 2030 agenda for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and mobilising financing for SDGs".

Speaking to the media, Lodhi said that her election to such an important organ demonstrates the faith of international community in Pakistan and the competence of its diplomats.
