ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs Wednesday here urged the government to approve funds for treatment of patients suffering from cancer.

Senator Sassui Palijo was chairing meeting of the committee which was told by officials that a summary had been sent to the federal cabinet for approval of grant for cancer patients. The committee chairperson noted that treatment of cancer was very expensive and beyond the reach of common man.

The committee also took up a public petition about setting up of industrial zones in backward areas falling in the path of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The officials of Board of Investment told the committee that the government had already notified the establishment of nine economic zones.

The committee referred the matter of setting up of any new industrial zone to the Planning Division. An official of Election Commission told the committee that seven million Pakistanis living abroad were eligible to vote but in the bye elections, only 7000 overseas voters out of 700000 chose to cast ballot in 37 constituencies.

The committee members suggested that the matter should be further looked into to make it more easy for overseas Pakistanis to vote in elections in future.
