PESHAWAR: Director General National Accountability Bureau - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (NAB-KP) Farmanullah Khan Tuesday said that illegal housing schemes were not only plundering the general public but also exerting negative impact on national economy.
Addressing an awareness creating seminar here, on “Corrupt Practices and Cheating Public at Large (Cooperative Societies/ Housing Societies)” for sensitization of general public on the issue of illegal housing Schemes, he said currently more than 295 illegal housing societies are operating across the province.
The seminar was organized by NAB – KP in collaboration with Local Govt Department and PDA. Minister Local Govt , Shahram Taraqi, Secretary Local Government Zahir Shah and Director General PDA Israr ul Haq spoke on the occasion.
Addressing the participants of the event, Director General NAB KP stressed on the role of regulators in eradication of corruption in housing sector. Due to population boom demand for housing has hiked, making real estate development a lucrative business.
He said that innocent public fall prey to such housing scams stripping them of their hard-earned money, adding said that such scams are not only indicative of our weak regulatory mechanism but has extensive devastating impact on the economy of the country.
He said that most of the problems in housing sector are the result of non-implementation of government laws by the department concerned.
The DG highlighted need for a comprehensive strategy to deal with the corruption in housing sector.
