ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain Friday said the rule of law was a prerequisite for functioning of a successful democratic set-up in any country. Speaking in Berkeley Law conference here, the minister said the government believed in the stability of national institutions.
As an institution, a strong and independent judiciary was vital, and like the Supreme Court and high courts, there was need to strengthen subordinate courts in the country also, he added.
Fawad said in the past high court benches were set up in some divisions and now there was a demand for the constitution of similar benches in Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Sahiwal. However, it would have to be studied as to how much the step would be beneficial, he added.
He said the Law Commission and the Supreme Court should consider measures to strengthen the subordinate judiciary.There was need to revamp the civil and districts courts in the country, he added.
