Court extends Shehbaz Sharif’s remand till November 10

An accountability court extended on Tuesday the transit remand of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif till November 10 in the Rs14 billion Ashiana Housing case.

The PML-N president was presented by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) before the accountability court Judge Muhammad Bashir as his remand expired today. During the hearing, the NAB requested the judge to extend the remand of Shehbaz.

NAB had requested the court to extend the remand till November 12, however, Shehbaz's lawyer argued that the remand should be extended till November 10. The court then granted an extension till November 10, local media reported.

In the court, Shehbaz met his brother Nawaz Sharif where they briefly talked to other PML-N leaders. Nawaz had appeared for his own hearing pertaining to Flagship reference case.

The PML-N president was arrested on October 5 for corruption in the Ashiana housing scheme case. Lahore Development Authority former director general Ahad Cheema and former principal secretary to deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Fawad Hasan Fawad accused in the same case have already been remanded into NAB custody. Fawad had named Shehbaz in his statement before NAB and provided evidence against him.
