The Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned Nawaz Sharif to appear before it on October 8 in a high treason case against him.

During the hearing on Monday, the LHC also summoned journalist Cyril Almeida along with Nawaz on October 8. The journalist has failed to appear before the high court for the past three hearings.

The LHC ordered his name to be placed on the no-fly list and issued non-bailable arrest warrants against him, local media reported. Meanwhile, the court was informed that Sharif could not appear today as he was in mourning following the death of his wife Kulsoom Nawaz.

The court was hearing a petition against Nawaz seeking treason charges against him. The petition stated that in an interview to Almeida, Nawaz defamed state institutions.

On the other hand, former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who is accused for disclosing a meeting of National Security Council (NSC) to Nawaz, also appeared before the court today. A petition had been filed against Abbasi, which stated that the former PM had violated his oath as PM by disclosing details of a NSC meeting to Sharif.

Earlier, the LHC issued bailable arrest warrants against Abbasi for failing to appear in court.
