ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has contradicted a news item published in a daily paper about getting "$200 million from World Bank for Developing Tertiary Education”.

According to a clarification issued by the Higher Education Commission Tuesday, it was said that no such financial support has been made by the World Bank.

Although a request for support has been submitted to it and is currently under review, it added.

Furthermore there is no truth in the claim that 10,000 scholars will be sent to the US under the US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor as that programme has already been approved by ECNEC.

The story fails to clarify which World Bank report is being referred to for the remaining claims.

A clarification may be published to present the true situation to the readers.
