ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Wednesday imposed fine of Rs 100,000 each on former inspector general of police (IGP) Islamabad Khalid Khattak and former defence secretary Lt Gen (Retd) Zamir ul Hassan Shah in a case seeking recovery of a missing citizen.
Former deputy commissioner of Islamabad Capt (retd) Mushataq Ahmed was also among the officers who were fined the same amount by the IHC.
The IHC bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah announced the judgment in the case filed by Mahira Sajid, wife of missing person Sajid Mehmood, who was an information technology expert.
The court directed the Federal Government to pay compensation of Rs 170,000 every month to the victim family of the missing person.
It observed that the incidents of missing of citizens from the Federal Capital were failure of the justice system and termed it a violation of basic human rights.
The court ordered the joint investigation team (JIT) to conclude its investigation regarding missing persons within one month and also submit progress report with the IHC’s registrar office after 15 days.
The court also imposed fine of Rs 300,000 on Station House Officer of Shalimar Police Station, Qaiser Niaz, for failure to probe the matter properly.
