MULTAN: A total of 404 candidates have filed nomination papers with nineteen (19) Returning Officers in Multan for six National Assembly and thirteen (13) Provincial Assembly seats for the upcoming general elections scheduled for 25th of July, 2018.

Meanwhile, Returning Officers started scrutinizing nomination papers of all candidates from today, Tuesday, and the process will continue till June 19 following which candidates would start filing appeals against acceptance/rejection of nomination papers, an official of ECP Multan said. Deputy Election Commissioner Multan Shakeel Ahmad said that all the arrangements were ready for holding the general elections. Total 110 candidates have filed nominations for six National Assembly seats in Multan. Exactly 23 candidates filed nominations for NA-154 Multan-I seat, 26 for NA-155 Multan-II, 23 for NA-156 Multan-III, ten (10) for NA-157 Multan-IV, ten (10) for NA-158 Multan-V, and eighteen (18) for NA-159 Multan-VI constituency. Total 294 candidates have filed nomination papers for thirteen (13) provincial assembly seats in Multan including 29 from PP-211 Multan-I, 30 from PP-212 Multan-II, 39 from PP-213 Multan-III, 24 from PP-214 Multan-IV, 20 from PP-215 Multan-V, 32 from PP-216 Multan-VI, 25 from PP-217 Multan-VII, 16 from PP-218 Multan-VIII, 23 from PP-219 Multan-IX, 17 from PP-220 Multan-X, 11 from PP-221 Multan-XI, 14 from PPP-222 Multan-XII, and fourteen (14) from PP-223 Multan-XIII.

Political heavy weights who have filed nomination papers included former federal minister Haji Sikandar Hayat Bosan, Ahmad Hassan Dehar, Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, and Shahzad Maqbool Bhutta from NA-154. Malik Muhammad Amir Dogar, and Sheikh Tariq Rasheed from NA-155.

PTI vice chairman Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Rana Shahid Ul Hassan, and Syed Tanveerul Hassan Gilani from NA-156. Makhdoom Zain Qureshi, the son of Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Syed Ali Musa Gilani, and Abdul Ghaffar Dogar from NA-157.

Former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Syed Javed Ali Shah and Ibrahim Khan filed nominations from NA-158. The notable candidates from NA-159 included Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, and Naghma Mushtaq Laang.

Election symbols would be allotted on June 30, the date when final list of contesting candidates would be published, ECP Multan officials said.
