Seeking assistance from intelligence agencies, federal and other provincial governments to arrest the former Malir Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar, Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police Allah Dino Khawaja wrote a letter to the relevant authorities on Sunday.

According to local media reports, Khawaja has asked for technical and intelligence assistance for Anwar's arrest. Anwar has been refusing to appear before the court for his involvement in the ‘extrajudicial murder’of Naqeebullah Mehsud.

On Saturday, the Supreme Court (SC) had given Khawaja three days time to arrest the former SSP. However, till now there has been no news of his arrest.

Supreme Court gives Sindh IG three days to arrest Rao Anwar

A report was submitted to SC on Friday by the inquiry committee, in which it was revealed that during Anwar's tenure, 745 police encounters took police in Malir. In the encounter, 444 accused were killed while 891 suspects were arrested, the report states.

It also included in the report that no evidence has been found whether the four suspects, who were shot dead and accused of being terrorists, fired back at the police during the alleged encounter. The report says that 26 casings of sub-machine guns used by the police were recovered from the site of the alleged encounter.

Naqeebullah, a 27-year-old native of Waziristan, was killed along with three other suspected terrorists on January 13, in an alleged encounter with a police team headed by Anwar. However, Naqeebullah’s family claimed that the deceased was innocent and was killed in a ‘fake’ encounter.
