A report was submitted to the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday by the inquiry committee regarding the 'extrajudicial murder' of Naqeebullah Mehsud, who was killed in a alleged encounter in Shah Latif Town, Karachi on January 13.

The SC will also hear a suo motu case at its Karachi Registry tomorrow. In the 15 page report, the committee has revealed that during the tenure of Senior Superintendent Police Rao Anwar, 745 police encounters took police in Malir.

During these encounters, as many as 444 accused were killed while 891 suspects have been arrested, local media reported. The report reveals that Naqeebullah, along with two others was picked up on January 3 by policemen but the two other men were released after they had bribed the officers.

Ex-SSP Rao Anwar refuses to appear before any committee

According to the report, no evidence has been found whether the four suspects, who were accused of being terrorists, fired back at the police during the alleged encounter. The report says that 26 casings of sub-machine guns used by the police were recovered from the site of the alleged encounter.

While police teams have been conducting raids in different area, the accused involved in the alleged encounter have not been arrested and have gone into hiding, the report further says.

Naqeebullah, a 27-year-old native of Waziristan, was killed along with three other suspected terrorists on January 13, in an alleged encounter with a police team headed by Anwar. However, Naqeebullah’s family claimed that the deceased was innocent and was killed in a ‘fake’ encounter.
