PARIS: France exported 1.44 million tonnes of soft wheat in November, of which 730,000 tonnes outside the European Union, customs data showed on Tuesday.

Algeria remained France's biggest market in November, with 480,000 tonnes shipped, the data showed.

The November volume took French exports outside the EU so far this season to 2.76 million tonnes, up 34 percent from a year earlier when shipments were curbed by a poor French crop.

However, traders say exports are lagging the level needed to clear the surplus from a good 2017 harvest, and some expect farming agency FranceAgriMer to lower its 2017/18 export forecast for a third consecutive month on Wednesday.

As of Jan. 8, France had exported 3.8 million tonnes of soft wheat outside the EU, data compiled by Reuters showed, less than half of the 9.5 million projected by FranceAgriMer for the whole of the July-June season.
