imageISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Saturday received 136 complaints of various nature against the local government election.

In a press briefing, the Secretary Election Commission Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad said, overall, the election was peaceful except a firing incident that killed 11 people in Khairpur district of Sindh.

The Secretary told media that the ECP received 49 complaints from Punjab and 87 from Sindh on various issues including misprinting of election symbols, candidates' names or against the election staff.

Action would be taken against the election staff that failed to adhere to the election code of conduct, he said.

About Khairpur incident, he said personal enmity could be the reason behind these killings; however an SHO and 14 police personnel were deployed in the union council.

He said six dead bodies had been recovered from the premises of the polling station and rest of from the outside.

The ECP has sought report from the Inspector General Police Sindh on the incident, he said.

He said IGP Punjab has been asked to legally act against Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Rai Mujtaba Kharal who allegedly slapped a presiding officer in Okara.

He said FIR has also been registered against Kharal and ECP would fully back the presiding officer in this case.

Babar Yaqoob said the footage showing the distribution of money at a polling station in Larkana was being examined and report has been sought from District Returning Officer.

He observed that the elections were held free, fair and transparent without being subject of the respective provincial governments.

He said that the commission would take an action against those involved in mismanagement due to the polls were postponed at various localities in Punjab and Sindh provinces on 20 seats.

Polling was suspended in five wards of Union Council-18 of Gujrat following a court order, the Secretary said.
