imageISLAMABAD: National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat on Friday expressed displeasure over passive attitude of Capital Development Authority (CDA) towards handling the issue of mushroom growth of illegal housing societies and Kachi Abbadies.

The committee decided to take up the issue with National Accountability Bureau, Federal Investigation Agency, Islamabad Electric Supply Company, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited and Islamabad Capital Territory Administration on June 17 so that concrete measures could be adopted against the illegal Housing Societies and Kachi Abbadies.

The body, met under the Chairmanship of Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan, thoroughly discussed the issue of illegal housing societies and slums, and action taken by CDA and concerned authorities against them.

The committee was of the view that rapid growth of illegal housing societies and Kachi Abbadies was not possible without the connivance of CDA officials. It directed the civic body to identify the black sheep and purge the department of them.

The committee also directed CDA to provide details of the action initiated by its management during last 18 months against the elements promoting illegal housing schemes and encoraching government land in the name of slums.

Earlier, the CDA Chairman apprised the Committee about the action taken against illegal Housing Societies and Kachi Abbadies and problems faced by them in this regard.

He was of the view that CDA was unable to handle the issue without the support of other stakeholders.

Among others, MNAs Parveen Masood Bhatti, Nighat Parveen Mir, Shahnaz Saleem, Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli, Pir Shafqat Hussain Jilani, Syed Ali Raza Abidi, Dr. Marheen Razaq Bhutto, Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, Moulvi Agha Muhammad and Muhammad Rehan Hashmi were present in the meeting.
