imageVijay Mallya, the chairman of the debt-ridden Kingfisher Airlines, will not appear as he was supposed to before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday.

The liquor baron has sought another extension till the end of May, in connection with an alleged money laundering probe involving more than INR 9,000 crore in loan fraud.

According to Business-Standard, last week, the agency investigating the case issued their third and last summon, asking the UB Group chairman to appear on April 9 after he asked for two extensions from the earlier dates of March 18 and April 2, citing official reasons.

This was supposed to be Mallya last summon, because under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), summons cannot be issued more than three times.

As per Hindustan Times, officials have not informed about their next legal course of action, if the United Breweries (UB) group chairman chooses to skip the date. The options may include revoking Mallya passport and/or issue a non-bailable warrant against him.

Mallya on Friday informed ED officials that he wanted a fresh date in May to appear before it.

Days ago, a consortium of 17 banks rejected Mallya offer to repay Rs 4,000 crore of the Rs 9,000 crore, which he owes them. The next hearing is scheduled for April 26.
