LIMA: Peru's central bank bought $147 million on Friday, but failed to keep the sol currency from closing at its strongest level in more than three years.
The sol closed bidding 2.729 per US dollar, 0.07 percent stronger than its Thursday closing price. The bank purchased $599.7 million this week.
Latin America's currencies strengthened broadly against the dollar on Friday on expectations US central bankers will take action to help kick-start the sluggish US economy.
