Saudi Arabia has initiated a ‘Post-Umrah Program’, under which the Umrah performing pilgrims would be allowed to convert their visas into tourist visas.
According to Saudi Gazette, Prince Sultan Bin Salman, President of Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH), launched the program, as a move to increase tourism in the kingdom.
The program is a part “The Kingdom is Muslims’ Destination” initiative, proposed by the commission several years ago.
As per a press statement released by SPA, the official Saudi news agency, Prince Sultan said the program aims at providing an opportunity to Umrah pilgrims to see the landmarks of the country i.e. Islamic historical sites, tourist destinations, shopping centers and malls.
The prince added that the Umrah pilgrims might also opt to make cultural, medical, educational and marketing tours, visit exhibitions and attend conferences after having completed their Umrah.
This facility is also available for the business visa holders and GCC citizens, and they could also join the post-Umrah program, he said.
