Baghdad car bomb kills three

BAGHDAD: A car bomb in the east of the Iraqi capital killed three people and wounded at least 10 on Wednesday, a police colonel and a medical official said.

The bomb, which exploded in Al-Husseiniyah at about 7:30 am (0430 GMT), came after a wave of violence killed more than 240 people over seven days at the end of April, raising fears of a return to sectarian violence that left tens of thousands dead.

Violence in Iraq has fallen sharply from the peak of the sectarian conflict in 2006 and 2007, but insurgents still stage attacks almost every day, killing more than 200 people each month so far this year.
