LONDON: Incoming Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby said on Friday he would vote for the ordination of female bishops, an issue that has caused years of wrangling among the world's Anglicans.
"I will be voting in favour and join my voice to many others in urging the synod to go forward with this change," Welby told a press conference after he was named as the next head of the Church of England.
A vote by the General Synod, the governing body of the worldwide Anglican Communion's mother church, is due later in November.
