ISLAMABAD: United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has congratulated Turkey's outgoing Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his election as the country's president, sources close to the prime minister have said.
In a telephone conversation, Ban and Erdogan also discussed the humanitarian situation in Gaza, Anadolu news agency reported.
Erdogan reiterated his calls for restrictions on Gaza to be lifted and for a sustainable cease-fire.
The president-elect also discussed Turkey's humanitarian mission to Gaza, including the establishment of field hospitals and a reliable electricity supply.
