hosni 400CAIRO: Egypt's ex-president Hosni Mubarak was en route to a military hospital from prison after suffering a stroke on Tuesday, a prison official said, after serving 17 days of a life sentence in prison.

"Mubarak has left the prison in an ambulance, it is on its way to the hospital," the source said.

The military hospital lies roughly six kilometres (3.7 miles) from the Tora prison near a Cairo suburb.
