SYDNEY: Australian shares extended falls to trade down just over 2 percent in late morning trade on Monday, hit by worries about the euro zone debt crisis hurting the global economy and falls by retailers on concerns of weaker than expected Christmas sales.
The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index dropped as low as 4,075.20. It was trading 1.9 percent down at 5,078.6 at 0025 GMT.
