Pakistan and Indonesia signed Preferential Trade Agree-ment (PTA) on Friday, in the absence of Commerce Minister Amin Fahim. The agreement, allegedly pushed by top palm oil importers through a 'special instrument', was inked by Indonesian Minister of Trade Gita Wirjawan, and Pakistan Ambassador to Indonesia Sanaullah.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Senate elections will be held as per schedule and the government will talk about general election with other political parties after FY2012-13 if there is a need to discuss it. Gilani made these remarks during his talk to media persons at the launch of Pakistan Business Train here on Friday.

China''s premier pledged to help Europe fight its debt crisis during a meeting Friday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel but a ruling party newspaper criticised sanctions on Iran and a human rights lawyer was blocked from meeting Merkel. China is "willing to cooperate with Europe to fight the current crisis," said Premier Wen Jiabao at a meeting with Merkel and German businesspeople in the southern business center of Guangzhou.
Iran will respond with threats of its own to intensifying warnings of military attacks and Western sanctions, its supreme leader said Friday in remarks particularly aimed at archfoe the United States. European Union governments could ban the sales of some telecommunications equipment to Iran in the coming months under plans for new sanctions discussed by EU experts in Brussels. EU diplomats said on Friday the bloc's 27 governments have reached an agreement in principle to target equipment that could be used by the Iranian authorities for monitoring of anti-government dissent.
