WASHINGTON: Influential US Senator John Kerry on Tuesday welcomed the reopening of Pakistani supply routes into Afghanistan, calling it a good example of US-Pakistan cooperative relations.
In a statement, Kerry who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said the reopening of the ground supply route into Afghanistan, the GLOCs, is a good example of the importance of us working together."This is a significant and important development" he remarked.
The Democratic lawmaker and former presidential candidate said Secretary Clinton's statement today to Pakistani Foreign Minister Khar was an act of leadership and will hopefully allow our two nations to put this issue behind us.
Our relationship is constantly being tested. What's important now is whats always been important, which is keeping our eyes on the main issues confronting our two nations. We have much to work on together, from fighting terrorism to helping to facilitate a stable Afghanistan.
These and other mutual issues of interest and concern should be our focus going forward despite our differences.
