ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Water and Power has obtained in principle permission to increase power tariff by 12 percent per unit.

“We have obtained approval in principle to notify 12 percent raise in power tariff across the board but the Law Ministry is yet to vet the notification,” said Zarghun Khan official spokesman of the ministry.

However, when contacted, Secretary Water and Power, Imtiaz Kazi told Business Recorder that the final decision will be taken by the Cabinet Committee on Restructuring (CCoR) led by the Finance Minister, in its meeting on Thursday.

In reply to a question, he said though 12 percent raise in tariff will be notified but there will be no change in existing consumers’ tariff.

“New tariff will be a mixture of regular tariff and Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) which has already been increased by Nepra,” the spokesman added.—MUSHTAQ GHUMMAN
