 ISLAMABAD: Speaker of Lok Sabah, Smt. Meira Kumar along with a 10 member parliamentary delegation met with members of Women's Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) aimed at providing greater opportunities of interaction between women parliamentarians of both the countries and exchanging experiences, expertise and good practices and advocate women empowerment.

The Speaker, Smt. Meira Kumar appreciated the efforts of the WPC and its role in building consensus amongst all the stake holders in providing legislation concerning women.

She was of the view that women of Pakistan and India have similar issues but over the past years there has been a "silent revolution" where women are becoming more educated which empowers them to ask for equal rights and opportunities.

Members of the Indian delegation and WPC mutually agreed to work towards enduring the peace process and enhancing greater regional cooperation.

Dr Nafisa Shah, secretary WPC was of the view that women of both the countries should play their role in transforming the dialogue process as agents of change.

Trade and Visa opportunities for women of both the countries were the major points of discussion as a way forward.

Also it was agreed that exchange programs of parliamentarians, students, women entrepreneurs and researchers should be promoted which will boost economic and social ties between both the countries.
