SUKKUR: MQM Chief Altaf Hussain calling upon Sindhi and Urdu speaking people on Friday to come closer bridging the gaps, said 'there is no old Sindhi or new Sindhi here' as all the people living in this province are Sindhis. In his telephonic address to a public meeting from London, he said: "Days of 'divide and do the politics' are gone."
Claiming that he wants an end to feudalism, Altaf Hussain said Sindh needs a leader and not a robber. He also claimed that honor of Sindh is dear to him more than his life and spoke few sentences in Sindhi language saying: "We owe much to Sindh for the love it gave.
Talking about rights of Sindh, MQM chief said this province contributes seventy percent to the national exchequer and questioned 'can the country be run on 30 percent resources if Sindh stops to share seventy percent'.
He also called for maintaining peace in Sindh and said the nationalists use to talk of Shah Latif but that great poet has given the message of peace.
Altaf Hussain said he hates using the word 'minorities' adding that people belonging to any religion living in this country are Pakistanis and have equal rights like others.
MQM chief called for resolving Balochistan issue amicably and restoring peace in Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw. He urged the government to bring the killers of citizens to justice and protect the life of lawyers and people.
He also raised the civic issues of Sukkur saying half the population of this city was deprived of potable water and added that the citizens were made to get water through tankers. He urged the government to resolve this problem.
He further asked the government to improve the conditions at Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College Sukkur and establish a University of international standard here besides setting up modern hospital and launching other development projects.
He also urged the federal government for improving railway system and initiating training programs for journalists of Sukkur. He announced Rs.1 million grant for Sukkur press club.
Earlier, MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar while addressing the public gathering said that MQM does not want to divide Sindh and will never support any division of the province.
He translated it in Sindhi language: 'Division of Sindh Na Khappay Na Khappay Na Khappay.' According to MQM, workers of the party reached from various cities including Ghotki, Khairpur, Naushehro Feroze, Nawabshah, Larkana, Shikarpur, Jaccobabad and Kashmore. MQM played songs recorded in Sindhi language describing Altaf Hussain as 'Raano of Sindh', that mean most loved one.
