KARACHI: The newly appointed Ambassador of France to Pakistan, Philippe Thiebaud, Friday called on Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, at the C.M. House here.
While warmly welcoming the French Ambassador, the Chief Minister said that Pakistan has very old relations with France, and the same will be more strengthened with the passage of time.
He stated that there is an elected and democratic government working under the constitution.
Chief Minister said that former prime minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto initiated the process of reconciliation and her policies are being adopted in every sphere of politics, with the result that there is an atmosphere of understanding in almost all major groups and political parities.
He added that all political parties in Sindh Assembly are jointly working for the welfare of masses and also provision of development activities in all parts of the province.
Chief Minister further said that our government is working under the leadership and guidance of President Asif Ali Zardari.
He also said that the province of Sindh has suffered a lot during the year 2010 and 2011, where as there were floods in 2010 and heavy rains in 2011.
Qaim Ali Shah said that during last year, more than 7.0 million people were badly affected and bore suffering, who were rescued, provided relief and the process of rehabilitation is in hand.
He said that yet there is need of blankets, shelter, medicines, clean drinking water etc to help the needy people.
Highlighting the economy of the province, Sindh Chief Minister said that the province is rich in agriculture and there is good production of wheat, rice, fruits, cotton, and other crops.
He said that many commodities particularly the paddy is being exported and efforts are being made to boost up the agriculture and achieve power generation from many sources including Thar coal, wind and solar energy.
Ambassador of France thanked the Sindh Chief Minister for warm welcome and hospitality and said that the relations between the two countries would further strengthen in future.
He added that the French architecture experts are severely working in Bhambhore and other historical sites of Sindh province.
French Ambassador added that the French people are fond of Sindh music, and recently a festival of Sindhi music was held at Paris, which was largely appreciated and liked by the French people.
Philippe Thiebaud further said that the French community is working for different sectors. It is also working in the province. The export from Pakistan has been increased upto 28% last year, the envoy said.
He added that a huge number of people from Pakistan are working in France and the French cultural centres are being regularly visited by the people of Pakistan.
French Ambassador also said that the people of Sindh have been spending time in French cultural and information activities and various programmes for students and cultural artists.
Special Secretary to C.M., Hafeezullah Abbasi, was also present.
Later, the Sindh Chief Minister presented traditional gifts of Sindh province, that is, Ajrak, Khais, Sindhi Cap, and shield to the French Ambassador.
