BERN: British sprinter Mark Cavendish withdrew from the Tour de France on Tuesday to focus on his Rio Olympic aspirations, the race said.
"Mark Cavendish has withdrawn from the Le Tour. But what memories he has created. Best of luck in Rio, Mark!" the Tour de France tweeted.
He won four stages this year and 30 in total on the Tour but was down in 155th place overall after the 16th stage from Moirans-en-Montagne to Bern on Monday.
Tuesday was a rest day.
There are five stages left in the race this year, four of which are in the Alps.
