imageWASHINGTON,: Tony Romo, sidelined for two months by a broken collarbone, was reactivated Saturday by the Dallas Cowboys while fellow NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick of San Francisco saw his season end.

Romo will return for Dallas on Sunday at Miami as the Cowboys, who won their first two games this season but have lost all seven contests Romo has missed, try to revive their fortunes in time to make a run at a playoff spot.

Despite their poor record, the Cowboys are only 2 1/2 games behind the NFC East division leaders, the New York Giants.

Romo suffered his injury September 20 against Philadelphia and both Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel struggled in guiding the Dallas attack.

Romo completed 36 of 45 passes for 356 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in a season-opening victory over the Giants and threw for 195 yards against the Eagles before the injury.

At San Francisco, the 49ers put Kaepernick on injured reserve with a left shoulder injury, removing any chance he could play for the remainder of the campaign.

Dylan Thompson was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster to take the spot vacated by Kaepernick, who was benched in favor of Blaine Gabbert.

Kaepernick threw for 1,615 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions and ran for 256 yards with one touchdown over nine games.

The 49ers (3-6) will visit Seattle (4-5) on Sunday.
