PARIS: Former France international Serge Blanco said Thursday he might bid for the presidency of the French Rugby Federation (FFR) in 2016.
Asked on French radio RTL whether he would bid to take over from Pierre Camou, the 56-year-old Blanco, the current vice-president responded: "Why not?"
"Yes, of course, that means yes," he continued.
"But there are norms to follow, people who I respect who are going to challenge, there is a president who is in place, I would need to talk with him. We'll see what is best for this federation."
Later the same day Blanco appeared to back-track, telling AFP: "I never gave a positive yes to this question (going for the presidency). Maybe I will one day, but then again it may never happen."
Blanco, a flamboyant fullback and one of France's greatest players with 38 tries in 93 test appearances, has since last September been involved in supporting the French national team training setup.
Former national coach Bernard Laporte has also said he intends to challenge Camou, 69, who has held the job since December 2008.
Currently at the helm at Top-14 outfit Toulon, Laporte said he wanted to change things in the FFR, notably at the top where he said officials stayed too long in their positions.
