MELBOURNE: Novak Djokovic took the first set of the Australian Open final 7-6(5) on Sunday after Andy Murray wavered when leading 4-2 in the tiebreak.
Murray appeared finally to be in control after an opening foray in which both players struggled to hold serve, but he wobbled with a double-fault and Djokovic hit back.
The Scottish sixth seed rushed to the net and sent a volley an inch past the baseline to give Djokovic a set point and Murray conceded it when he returned a backhand in the net.
