imageSYDNEY: Spanish forward Miguel Palanca has signed to play the rest of the season with Adelaide United in Australia's A-League, the club said Tuesday.

Palanca, 27, joins the Reds from Numancia, where he played 22 times over 18 months and scored five goals for the Segunda Division club.

Palanca increases the Spanish influence at the Australian club which already includes forwards Pablo Sanchez and Sergio Cirio, and midfielder Isaias Sanchez.

Adelaide's head coach Josep Gombau said he was excited by the experience and versatility that Palanca will bring, as well as his familiarity with the style of play at the club.

"We are trying to play this particular style and to bring a player like Palanca will only help us improve as a team," said Gombau, a former Barcelona youth coach.

Palanca, who will arrive in Adelaide later this week, made three first-team appearances for Spanish giants Real Madrid during the 2008-09 season and played regularly for their second team in the Segunda Division.

He began his football career with Espanyol and has also played for Castellon on loan, and for Elche.
