MADRID: Under fire Barcelona coach Luis Enrique will be without experienced midfielder Xavi Hernandez for the first leg of his side's Copa del Rey last 16 tie with Elche on Thursday.
The 34-year-old had originally been included in Enrique's 18-man squad for the game, but has been replaced by Andres Iniesta due to a calf strain.
Xavi will also now face a race against time to be fit to face Spanish champions Atletico Madrid in a crucial La Liga match at the Camp Nou on Sunday.
Lionel Messi has been included in the squad and is expected to start despite rumours over his future in recent days after he missed an open training session with the club's fans on Monday citing a stomach bug.
