Pakistan’s under pressure one-day international (ODI) skipper, Azhar Ali was unable to deliver after he was dismissed for a duck, as the Green Shirts take on West Indies in the first day-night international in Sharjah on Friday.
The West Indian captain, Jason Holder won the toss and decided to bowl first in the first game of the three-match series.
The bilateral series between Pakistan and West Indies is crucial in many ways, as it will decide the final eighth teama to make direct entry into ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019. Both West Indies and Pakistan are currently ranked eighth and ninth respectively on the ICC table.
Furthermore, the series is crucial for the Pakistani skipper, who was under heat after Pakistan’s dismal performance against England, losing the series 4-1 earlier this month.
Many called to strip the senior batsman from captaincy, who was a surprise choice for the ODI leadership after Misbah’s retirement from the format.
