Pakistan’s former chief selector and Test player Mohsin Hassan Khan has said that the Pakistan team needs few changes in the second Test against England starting at Old Trafford on Friday.
“After Lord’s victory, the pressure will be on Pakistan team, so I hope the selectors will not stick to old theory of entering the Test match with same winning combination, which is normally done in the past, but things have quite changed now, he was quoted as saying by the local media.
The team management must not announce the squad till the toss being done and after carefully watching the behaviour of the pitch, as in the past, hosts used to fool opponents by leaving grass on the pitch before start of the Test match, which was removed prior to start of the Test matches and trapping opponent’s captain, he added.
Mohsin said if he was there as a coach, he could have made the decisions after seeing the entire situation very carefully.
“I am sure Mickey Arthur is a very good and clever coach and reads the situation quite well so I think he will make changes accordingly.
“I believe Pakistan should include one right arm pace bowler either Sohail Khan or Imran Khan Senior and also Zulfiqaar Bbaar, who, no doubt, is world class bowler and can turn the entire complexion of the match with his bowling.
“Entering the match with three left-arm fast bowlers will not always help, as all these bowlers are almost similar and can easily be readable.
“Anyhow it is purely the domain of the coach and team management and they will hopefully take decision in the best interest of the team and the country.
“We say horses for the courses and I believe they will follow the same example and ensure right combination for the Old Trafford Test.”
The former opening batsman also said that collective team effort and perfect game plan of head coach Mickey Arthur were main reason behind Pakistan team’s historic victory against England at Lord’s.
Mohsin said the most interesting thing to note was that all the players were playing like one unit and wanted to give their more than 100 percent.
