West Indies all rounder Darren Sammy has given an honorary Pakistan citizen.
According to local media report, The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervaiz Khattak offered the explosive all rounder the honorary citizenship of Pakistan on special request of Peshawar Zalmi owner and a passionate cricket fan Javed Afridi.
Sammy was a part of the ‘Peshawar Zalmi’ squad in the first edition of the Pakistan Super League which took place in the UAE in February 2016.
After the ‘Peshawar Zalmi’ player learnt Pashto and won over the hearts of Pakistanis, Peshawar Zalmi’s owner Javed Afridi had previous tweeted that he would request the federal government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to offer Sammy with an honorary citizenship owing to his love and regard for Pakistan.
Javed Afridi, tweeted and requested the Government of Pakistan to grant citizenship to Darren Sammy for his love for this nation.
To make this major announcement, following Afridi’s tweet, Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak announced citizenship for the West Indian captain.
And Sammy accepted the offer, saying it was an honour for him .
Interestingly, Darren Sammy also learned Pashto from Javed and called it a “very sweet language”.
Earlier, after winning the World T20, Sammy also thanked the Pakistani fans in Pashto for supporting his team throughout the World T20. “I want to thank my Pakistani supporters for their support and will come to Peshawar soon,” he said.
