Batting coach Grant Flower expressed that he was saddened to see Waqar Younis leave the post of head coach because he feels that the former Pakistan fast bowler would have come in handy in the upcoming tour of England.
According to media report, “It was unfortunate what happened. I feel sorry for the guy. I got to know him very well. I was quite surprised he didn’t carry on, because he had a great record as head coach in Tests and we are just going to play a four-match series against England.”, said the former Zimbabwe batsman in an interview with ESPNcricinfo.
The former Zimbabwe player admitted that the recommendations made by Waqar were quite sensible and he is happy to see that most of those have been implemented.
“What he said after [quitting] was very strong, but in his recommendations were great ideas. I see most of them are being implemented, which is good for Pakistan,” said Flower.
Earlier, Pakistan’s head-coach, Waqar Younis, has resigned as Pakistan's coach three months before his contract was going to end, after his side’s poor show during the 2016 World T20 in India.
