Former captain Mohammad Yousuf believes the trio Mohammad Hafeez, Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik should lead the team from the front and deliver good performance in an upcoming Asia Cup and World Twenty-20.
According to local media reports, Yousuf said trio of Hafeez, Afridi, Malik are iconic and highly rated players in T20 brand of cricket and they must lead team from the front. Yousuf said Umar remained in great form in PSL and he should carry his form in the Asia Cup and also World T20. Performance of top order batsmen Hafeez, Malik, Umar (Akmal) and Afridi will be the key in our ultimate showing in these competitions.
“Pakistan is highly rated team and they must deliver for reaching the top. We have got a good bowling attack. But despite that our batsmen's role will be vital," he stressed. However, he said there is no specialist spinner in the team which is loaded with all-rounders led by Afridi. “Specialist spinner’s role would have been very important in these conditions,” he said.
Although, the national selectors have announced a 15-member squad for the Asia Cup and the World T20 but Afridi said the selectors and team management will closely watch performances in the Asia Cup to be held in Bangladesh from February 24.
The T20 Asia Cup is scheduled to be hosted by Bangladesh from February 24 to March 6 followed by the T20 World Cup in India from March 8 to April 3.
