Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews has promised ‘no mercy’ for players if they're found guilty of late night partying and other misconduct during his team's disastrous tour of New Zealand.
According to foreign media reports Mathews told reporters, “I can't deny or accept that these things happened. But, I can promise that there will be no mercy for any member found guilty of misconduct. But, I can promise that there will be no mercy for any member found guilty of misconduct.” He said the team could have done better and admitted the New Zealand tour was “demoralizing”.
"As players, we don't play to lose and you get hurt when spectators say things like this. Fans are also hurt when we lose and you have to look at it from both ways," Mathews said.
Sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekera said he had been handed photos of players attending all-night parties just before games against New Zealand, media reported.
Recently, Sri Lanka came to New Zealand as defending Twenty20 world champions and world number one but slipped to third following their 2-nil loss in the T20 matches.
