imageKARACHI: Pakistan batting ace Younus Khan by scoring fifth hundred in fourth innings Test match against Sri Lanka on Monday created history in Test matches.

Sunil Gavaskar, Ricky Ponting, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Graeme Smith all have scored four hundred in the fourth innings.

Younis' fourth-innings average, at the end of the fourth day of the Test, is 57.40, the third-best among all batsmen who've scored at least 1000 fourth-innings runs. The only batsmen with better averages are Geoffrey Boycott and Gavaskar.

217 is the unbroken partnership between Shan Masood and Younis Khan is Pakistan's highest - and only their second 200-plus stand - in the fourth innings of a Test. Overall, it's so far the eighth-highest in the fourth innings in Test history.

Two Number of times two Pakistan batsmen have scored hundreds in the fourth innings of a Test. The only previous instance was against New Zealand in Hyderabad in 1984, when Mudassar Nazar and Javed Miandad scored centuries in a successful run-chase.

This was sixth Instances of Pakistan openers scoring hundreds in the fourth innings of a Test. Apart from Masood, the others to achieve this feat are Shoaib Malik (also in Sri Lanka), Mohammad Hafeez, Mudassar Nazar, Mohsin Khan and Mohammad Ilyas. Masood is the fifth Pakistan batsman whose maiden Test hundred has come in the fourth innings of a game.

Second Instances of Pakistan scoring 300-plus in the fourth innings in a successful run-chase. Their best is 315 for 9, against Australia in Karachi in 1994, while in Sharjah last year they made 302 for 5 in just 57.3 overs against Sri Lanka. Their best in the fourth innings of a Test is 343 for 3, in a drawn game against South Africa in Dubai in 2010.

This was first Instances of the highest team total coming in the fourth innings, in a Test match in Sri Lanka. The only such occurrence was in a Sri Lanka-Zimbabwe Test at the SSC in 1998, when Sri Lanka made 326 for 5 in the fourth innings to win the Test. In the ongoing Test, the highest total so far is Sri Lanka's 313 in their second innings.

Five Wickets for Imran Khan in the Sri Lankan second innings, was his first five-for in Tests. Before this innings, he had figures of 9 for 356 in four-and-a-half Tests. Imran's five-for also ends an incredible sequence by Junaid Khan - the last five five-fors by a Pakistan fast bowler against Sri Lanka were all by Junaid.

1309 runs by Angelo Mathews' aggregate in Tests against Pakistan; only ten batsmen have scored more runs against them. Among the 26 batsmen who've scored 1000 or more runs against Pakistan, Mathews' average of 59.50 is seventh-highest.

This was 12th fifty-plus scores for Mathews in Tests since the beginning of 2014. Only two batsmen - Kumar Sangakkara (14) and Steven Smith (13) - have passed 50 more often in this pe
