The Zimbabwe cricket team landed in Pakistan in the early hours of Tuesday and to celebrate the return of international cricket to Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has roped in singer-actor Ali Zafar and singer Shehzad Roy to perform at the opening and closing ceremonies of the series respectively.
According to local media reports Ali Zafar said,” It has been way too long since international cricket happened in Pakistan”. He added, “I felt sad for all the years the players couldn’t engage in cricket in their own nation”.
Shehzad too is excited, “It is a huge honour for me to perform at the closing of this match and I hope this is just the first of many international matches to follow.”
Following the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009, Pakistan has not hosted any international cricket matches. Zimbabwe is set to play two T20s and three ODIs in a mini-series under high security involving 6,000 police and constant surveillance by commandos and helicopters. Today, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the squad of green shirts for Zimbabwe T20 series to be played from May 22 and 24.
Reportedly, apart from Ali Zafar and Shehzad Roy, Annie Khalid will also perform on the occasion.
