While giving in an interview to local media Saeed Ajmal suspected that during an electrifying match between Pakistan and India, on Sunday, the ICC umpire Steve Davis had mistreated Pakistan when Umar Akmal caught behind on a referral decision.
‘Steve Davis never upheld any appeal when I bowled and I had to always ask for a referral to get a wicket when he was the umpire,’ Said Ajmal.
Sarfaraz Nawaz and Imran Nazir, former test players, also supported his arguments. ‘Steve Davis always had issues with us and even when we didn't want him for a match no one listened to us,’ Ajmal added.
The hosts of the show also pointed out the fact that Davis had given negative remarks about Pakistan after the attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore, 2009. Ajmal also reminded that in the semi final of 2011 World Cup at Mohali, Davis had got Sachin Tendulkar out leg before the decision got reviewed.
Later on Ajmal added that, ‘Even at that time I remember Gautam Gambhir telling Sachin not to take a referral as it was a big out yet when the referral was taken it showed the ball going outside the leg-side and this raises lot of questions about this technology. After all this technology is also managed by human beings.’
