ISLAMABAD: Former Test Cricketer Sarfaraz Nawaz hopes pacer Muhammad Amir would return to international cricket soon saying the people who try to lure cricketers on the wrong path should be stopped.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board is holding a meeting in Dubai where issues relating to illegal bowling actions, anti-corruption and anti-doping matters will be discussed. The ICC Board is likely to give its nod of approval to the move that will allow Amir a reprieve in the sense that he would be allowed to return to domestic cricket as early as next month.
This means that the fast bowler, who was banned for five years for spot-fixing along with two other team-mates, could be fully ready to return to international cricket soon after his ban ends this September.
Talking to APP, Sarfaraz said what Amir did was wrong. "There are people who try to lure cricketers on the wrong path and in corruption, they need to be stopped," he said.
Sarfraz urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to constitute a committee comprising senior players to keep an eye on the youngsters," he said adding the youngsters need to be groomed and educated on how to avoid the pitfalls of the cricket world.
Speaking about two-match Pak-New Zealand series starting from January 31, Sarfaraz said it is also a good sign that skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has gained his form after the hamstring injury. "All players need to work hard in the matches to come if they want to obtain winning results," he said.
