imageKARACHI: International Raza Hasan smashed a maiden first class hundred as National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) salvaged some pride by holding defending champion Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) to a draw in the final of Quaid-e-Azam Cricket Trophy Gold League here at the National Stadium on Friday.

However by virtue of their massive 301-run first innings lead, SNGPL retained their title.

22-year-old Raza from Sialkot, who is among the 30 probables for the World Cup, stole the limelight by scoring 123 Adnan Akmal, who dropped Raza on 60s and missed stumping on 89, faced 209-ball in 292 minutes stay at the crease and it was studded with 14 boundaries and four sixes.

Bankers suffered a mini-collapse soon resumption on the fifth and final day losing Kamran Akaml (137), Umar Waheed (5) and Qasier Abbas (0) in space of 16-ball.

However Raza and Test fast bowler Wahab Riaz added 86 runs for the 8th wicket. Wahab was run out after making 36 with six boundaries. Zia-ul-Haq finished undefeated on 28 also banging six fours.

NBP was all out for 503 in their second innings and SNGPL was 28 without loss in their second innings when match was called off early with no chance of result.

Paceman Imran Ali finished eexcedlent figures of five wickets fo 85 runs in 30 overs.

The SNGPL captain Taufeeq Umar received giant glittering silver trophy from former Test cricketer and PCB official Salahuddin Ahmed with cash purse of Rs.2.5 million while NBP skipper Kamran Akram got the runners-up trophy and purse of Rs.1.5 million.

Muhammad Rizwan collected the man of the match award for his maiden double century.

Naeemuddin, who scored 1055 runs got the best batsman award, Sohail Khan with 62 wickets was named best bowler, and Zuhaib Ahmed got best allrouner award carrying Rs. 50,000 each.
