imageISLAMABAD: Former Test cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz has suggested that the pair of Azhar Ali and Haris Sohail should open the 2nd Test against New Zealand.

Sarfraz said Azhar having the ability to stay on the crease could be useful opener, while Haris Sohail had the guts for longer time, he said talking to APP on Sunday.

Pakistan has won the first Test with a considerable lead in the three-match series. The second Test will be played on Monday (Nov 17). The two teams will also play two Twenty20 matches and five One Day Internationals.

Younis Khan deserves to be in the next year's World Cup squad as he has performed above expectations. "Younis was dropped during the one day international (ODI) series against Australia and Pakistan went on to lose the series by 3-0. Things keep going against him but he has proved that he is playing for his country," he said.

Sarfraz said whenever the team needed Younis, in good or bad times, he has played positive cricket. "I see Younis playing in the 2015 World Cup as we have seen our team's performance in the ODI series without him," he said.

Sarfraz said it is also a good sign that skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has also gained his form in the Test matches against Australia and New Zealand.

Sarfraz also praised the PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan and Najam Sethi for supporting Younis Khan and Misbah in the bad times. "All the players have worked hard in the Tests and the team combination was also very good," he said.

Responding to a question about the ICC to allow banned players to feature in domestic matches a few months before their punishment expires, Sarfraz said it is good news for the talented pacer Mohammed Amir, who is desperately waiting for a return to cricket.
